At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, among other concept cars, the Honda Civic Tourer made people stare at and now of course everyone is expected to get a production version. After one month of the debut at the Geneva Motor show, the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer was offered for test driving. The production version of the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer is looking exactly like the concept version, however there are some design cues that it shares with civic hatchback that Honda decided to camouflage them in an attempt to make a distinctive look.
The 2014 Honda Civic Tourer is basically a small wagon that carries the standard look of a civic hatch with the addition of some new features to its exterior and interior. The model carries a few notable changes that were not included in the concept version such as bulging wheel arches, swooping roofline, roof rack and the accomodation for the high capacity of luggage. The production version will make its debut at Frankfurt Motor show in September 2013 and will go on sale in early 2014. The production version of the car will be manufactured in the Swindon plant UK and it is expected that the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer will produce about 20% sales of the Civic lineup of the Honda.
Styling, Comfort and Utility
Though, the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer is under production and the details of the exterior styling and interior features and comfort are not revealed however, the production version will get lots of exterior features from the concept. The car features distinctive D-Pillars, new large alloy wheels, center mounted exhaust intakes, appealing taillight design, the sloping roofline that move outwards at the rear window making its look angular and sharp. On both sides of the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer, there are a bevy of LED lights. Despite of its sporty look, the five door Tourer also offers an impressive and larger storage area.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2014 Honda Civic Tourer offers three engine choices to deliver an impressive power and fuel economy. The engine choices include 1.4 liter i-VTEC produces 100 horsepower and 94 lb ft of torque, 1.8 liter i-VTEC generates 140 horsepower and 128 lb ft of torque and 2.2 liter i-DTEC engine generates 150 horsepower and 258 lb ft of torque. 1.3 liter and 1.6 liter gasoline engines are also expected to join the 1.8 liter Atkinson cycle petrol Powertrain paired with an electric motor to deliver 134 horsepower. The addition of an electric motor will definitely increase the fuel economy which is one of the biggest concerns of the car buyers due to rapidly increasing prices of other fuels.
The key competitors of the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer would be the 2013 Toyota Auris Touring Sports. The car offers a choice of powertrains to its customers and will deliver a comfortable ride and charm. We can hope for the best performance and comfort from the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer and the Tourer would have to struggle hard to make an outstanding place in the segment.
Another tough rival of this car is the 7th generation Volkswagen Golf Variant that is a perfect match for the hatchbacks. The Golf Variant is equipped with petrol and diesel engines that generating power from up to 140 horsepower with petrol and up to 150 horsepower with a diesel engine.
